City of Momence City Council met Sept. 2.

The City Council Meeting of the City of Momence was held in the Council Chambers at 29 North Dixie Highway, Momence.
ROLL CALL
Roll was called by the Clerk with Aldermen Vela, Hart, Fordahl, and Lesyna Temple present. Absent were Doody, Anderson and Cook
APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES
Alderman Avelino Vela made motion to approve the minutes. Alderman Tanya Fordahl seconded the motion with Aldermen Fordahl, Hart, Temple and Lesyna voting yes.
APPROVAL OF THE BILLS
Alderman Lesyna made motion to approve the bills for payment. Alderman Vela seconded the motion with Aldermen Vela, Temple, Fordahl, and Lesyna, and Hart voting yes.
CITIZENS FOROM-
Nancy Porter, with Friends of the Park, presented the new sign to be placed at Conrad Park purchased by VanDrunen Farms as well as paying for the installation.
Linda Lund asked for the fee to be waived at Friends of the Park annual garage Sale on 9/20/25. Motin was made by Alderman Temple, Second by Alderman Lesyna. All voted yes.

Aldermanic Report
Mark Lesyna presented ordinance number 896, Implementing a Municipal Grocery Retailers' Tax. The State of Illinois is doing away with the current tax and it's up to each municipality to create their own. 1% tax is what is currently in place and what will continue to be once we pass this ordinance. Motion to pass was made by Alderman Lesyna, 2nd by Alderman Fordahl. All voted yes.
Budget was presented by Mayor Steele, as Alderman Doody was not present, total budget is 4,803,140.00. Alderman Fordahl made the motion to pass the budget, 2nd by Alderman Temple. All voted yes.
Department Heads-
Chief Siemsen, presented his monthly update on police happenings, Officer Adam Blaskey, stepped down from full-time to part-time effective 9/2/25. Waiting on background to come back for another potential officer. A few arrests have been made from DUI, suspended and battery. Still in discussion with MAP, the police union. Received a grant of a few thousand dollars for ballistic shields. The Charger is no longer repairable, new engine/head gasket is needed. Worth scrap price only, may swap with the company removing the equipment from the car for his services of removing the equipment. Waiting for the invoice from the car that was totaled. Having issues with kids on 4 wheelers new 6th and N locust.
Eric Vela, River St project should be done by the end of next week.
Treasurer report -
MAYORAL REPORT
presented the proposal from Ruder Technologies for the fiber cable from Police Department to City Hall, this will, in the future, eliminate double charges that are currently in place, server, cameras, annual fees for both places. Alderman Vela questioned the amount of bandwidth that the fiber can handle, was mentioned that there is no issue. Alderman Fordahl made the motion, pending ComEd approval to use the current poles, 2nd by Alderman Temple. All voted yes.
Alderman Vela made motion to adjourn. Alderman Fordahl seconded the motion along with Aldermen Temple, Hart and Lesyna voting yes. Meeting adjourned at 7:55pm PM
