Robin Kelly, U.S. Representative for Illinois's 2nd congressional district, used her social media platform to criticize federal actions in Chicago and highlight efforts by Illinois Democrats to hold federal agencies accountable.

On October 7, 2025, Kelly wrote, "President Trump & Republicans shut down the government, and now he's sending the National Guard to Chicago. This is not leadership. President Trump is a WEAK president who uses fear as a weapon to hide his own problems and failures. Federal troops are not an answer to crime."

Later that day, she posted another message addressing actions by federal immigration authorities: "Under Secretary Noem’s reckless leadership, ICE has turned Chicago neighborhoods into war zones. Flashbangs, helicopters, and fear are not tools of public safety—they’re an abuse of power. Our communities deserve care, not cruelty, and real leadership, not chaos."

On October 8, 2025, Kelly emphasized ongoing oversight efforts by Illinois lawmakers: "Illinois Democrats are fighting back. @RepChuyGarcia & @RepDeliaRamirez on the Judiciary and Homeland Security Committees are demanding answers from Sec. Noem and ICE. We were there Sunday to hear from South Shore families, and they want us to hold ICE accountable."

Kelly has consistently won reelection in her district by significant margins. In 2022, she defeated Thomas Lynch with 67.1% of the vote. Previous victories include defeating Theresa Raborn in 2020 with 78.8%, David Merkle in 2018 with 81.1%, John Morrow in 2016 with 79.8%, and Eric Wallace in 2014 with 78.5%. These results demonstrate her longstanding support among constituents.
