Kankakee County Enterprise Zone Administrator and Economic Alliance of Kankakee County President and CEO Mike Van Mill updated local business leaders on the impact of the area's two enterprise zones during a briefing Oct. 1.
Enterprise zones are areas where local governments offer tax and permitting incentives to encourage business development.
Kankakee County has two zones covering 11 municipalities.
Since being created in 1984, the two zones have welcomed 262 total projects. The Kankakee County zone has received over $133 million in investment while the Kankakee River zone has received $1 billion in investment since 2005 alone.
Both zones are scheduled to expire in July 2016, though they will be able to reapply.
