The Kankakee County Buildings and Grounds Committee held its regular meeting Nov. 12.
The committee considered paying between $15,000 to $20,000 to entertain a request from Mike Roof to move the office of the Veterans Assistance Commission (VAC) to the former jail building in downtown Kankakee. Since VAC can't afford it, Roof said the county would have to pay for it.
Committee member Mike Bossert began the discussion on the proposed move by noting the county had just spent money renovating the office's existing location. The work he was referencing cost the county approximately $28,000, according to committee member Lori Gadbois. After more discussion, though, the committee eventually decided to approve the request.
The committee also discussed several options for relocating the County Treasurer's office but could not come to a conclusion. The committee passed a motion to have the treasurer, county clerk, assessor and committee members Gadbois, Stephen Einfeldt and Bossert meet on their own time to come up with a workable solution that could be presented at the committee's next meeting.
