Bradley gives a second chance to electric aggregation

Villageofbradley

The village of Bradley will give fixed rate electricity aggregation another shot, hoping to duplicate the savings of previous energy efforts.

The village maintained an electricity aggregation program between 2012 and 2014 to give residents an alternative to ComEd prices. During that time, residents saved an average of $375. Overall, the village saved $1,677,000.

Electricity aggregation is a group purchasing program that allows local governments to leverage the collective buying power of several municipalities to secure lower, stable rates.

The original program was not renewed because the village was unable to find new 2014 rates that competed with ComEd prices as well as 2012's rates. Village officials say they've now found competitive rates of 6.392 cents per kWh through Dynegy Energy, which is lower than the current ComEd rate of 6.987 cents per kWh.

The village will mail information about the program to residents and small commercial customers Wednesday. The mailing will include rate information, instructions on how to opt in or opt out and details on the timeline of the transition.

Dynegy will take over as an energy supplier on residents' April bills, even though the bills themselves will continue to come from ComEd.

The new agreement will be in effect for 17 months.
