Robin Kelly, who has represented Illinois’ 2nd district in the U.S. Congress since 2013, recently shared a series of posts on social media addressing healthcare policy and disaster response under the Trump administration. Kelly, a former member of the Illinois House of Representatives and Bradley University graduate, commented on topics ranging from Medicaid cuts to federal emergency management.

On July 12, 2025, Kelly posted that "The Trump admin is obsessed with people having babies — but Trump isn’t lowering childcare costs or maternal death rates. His cuts to Medicaid made it worse.

Americans don’t want more babies. They want the choice, safety, and affordability to have babies."

In a post dated July 13, 2025, she further criticized Republican actions regarding Medicaid: "Republicans knew that slashing Medicaid was wrong. But they decided to exacerbate our maternal mortality crisis anyways.

As I told POLITICO, I will continue the fight toward reproductive justice so every mother and baby have the resources they need to thrive."

On July 14, 2025, Kelly addressed President Trump's handling of disaster response in Texas: "President Trump never takes responsibility for his own actions — he only blames others.

The families of victims from the Texas flood deserve answers, not excuses.

Our communities deserve a well-equipped FEMA response, not a gutted federal agency."

Robin Kelly was born in New York City in 1956 and currently resides in Matteson. She succeeded Jesse Jackson Jr. as representative for Illinois’ 2nd district in Congress.
