Robin Kelly, currently serving as the U.S. Representative for Illinois’ 2nd District, has recently shared her concerns regarding proposed changes to Medicaid and other social programs through a series of posts on social media. Kelly, who has represented her district since 2013 after succeeding Jesse Jackson Jr., addressed feedback from constituents and expressed apprehension about the potential impact of Republican-led policy changes.
On July 11, 2025, Kelly posted about conversations she had in Louisiana: "Last night in Speaker Johnson’s home state of Louisiana, people told @housedemocrats and I that they’re terrified of what the Big, Ugly Law means for their healthcare. My constituents are also concerned b/c the truth is that Medicaid is a lifeline for families — and Republicans".
In a subsequent post on July 12, 2025, Kelly discussed her appearance on national television to further elaborate on these concerns: "LIVE NOW: I'm on @TheLastWord to share what I heard at a townhall in New Orleans. It's the same concerns I'm hearing in Illinois. People are scared about their healthcare and what Republican cuts to Medicaid mean for them."
Later that evening, Kelly reiterated her position during another segment: "Tonight on @thelastword, I set the record straight: Medicaid isn't a scam. It saves people's lives. SNAP isn't a scam. It feeds hungry children. Republicans slashed these programs to give more to the wealthy few. It's cruel and evil, and Americans won't forget it."
Robin Kelly was born in New York City in 1956 and currently resides in Matteson. She graduated from Bradley University with a BA in 1977 and previously served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007.
