Kankakee has reached an agreement with the firefighters union.

Kankakee has reached an agreement with the firefighters union.

The Kankakee City Council recently approved a collective bargaining agreement with the International Association of Firefighters, AFL-CIO-CLC Local No. 653.

The contract was unanimously supported, though council member Glenn Davidson expressed reservations about the education provisions in the deal.

"At some point, you know, the fire department, the firefighters need to realize that, you know, we have a budget that we have to put together and our taxpayers are the ones that’s footing the money for it ... but I’ll vote yes," she said.

The council also established new handicapped parking at 427 S. Nelson Ave. and 274 S. Fourth Ave and an outdoor advertising sign at 239 E. Court St.
