Robin Kelly, U.S. Congresswoman representing Illinois’ 2nd district since 2013, raised concerns about transparency in government and highlighted the importance of federal nutrition programs in a series of tweets posted on July 22 and July 23, 2025.

On July 22, Kelly questioned recent actions by House leadership regarding the release of documents related to Jeffrey Epstein. She wrote, ".@SpeakerJohnson if you truly believe in transparency, why did you & @HouseGOP block the release of the Epstein files last week? Then shut down early to block another vote on the release? What are you hiding?"

Later that day, she emphasized the role of federal nutrition assistance programs compared to local food pantries. In her tweet from July 22 at 20:26 UTC, Kelly stated, "For every meal a food pantry provides, SNAP provides 9. I am grateful to organizations like @riversidemc, @fooddepository & many more who provide for our neighbors, but they can’t solve the food insecurity crisis alone. Federal programs like SNAP are essential, and should be".

The following day, Kelly criticized fiscal policies supported by some conservative lawmakers. On July 23 at 13:42 UTC she tweeted: "Hardline conservatives claim to care about the deficit. But they all folded and voted for President Trump’s Big, Ugly Law that blows up the deficit by another $3.4 TRILLION.

This is straight from the nonpartisan @USCBO:"

Kelly has represented Illinois’s 2nd District in Congress since replacing Jesse Jackson Jr. in 2013 and previously served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007. Born in New York City in 1956 and currently residing in Matteson at age 66, she holds a BA from Bradley University (FACTS FOR STEP 4).
