Momence Mayor Mick Porter recently updated the public about a sidewalk project that is taking place on the 100 block along East Washington.
A contractor removed the sidewalks that previously covered two areas with vaults. The vaults have been filled with geo-foam or Styrofoam; this is to prevent any excessive pressure that could damage the foundations where the vaults are.
As the project continues, the contractor will remove all of the sidewalk found on the south side of East Washington. When this portion is finished, the crews will begin the same process on the north potion of the street.
Unfortunately, storing the equipment and materials for this project is a source of inconvenience to local residents.
“The city appreciates everyone's patience as the work continues,” Porter said.
Two other projects recently were completed, including the placement of the south side waterline and Norfolk Southern Railroad work at North Ash Street.
