Swiftly counteracting confrontational remarks by his election opponent, Ed Glazar, Republican candidate for Kankakee County state’s attorney, recently issued a press release defending his long-standing reputation as Kankakee County’s chief public defender for three decades.

“Despite my opponent’s claims, the official county record shows that I have never been over budget … from 2001 through 2014 … as chief public defender,” Glazar said. “Rowe is distorting the truth, once again, for political reasons.”

Glazar contested additional claims that his stipend had been doubled and that he “gave” health care coverage to part-time employees, stating that those benefits had been in place prior to his appointment.

“Anyone (with) experience in the position would know that, and this obvious lack of experience is the one thing we can’t afford to have in the state’s attorney’s office,” he said.

Additionally, he said, “Jim Rowe … acted as a true politician would,” following Glazar’s broaching ideas to help the county save money. Glazar asserted that Rowe criticized the current state’s attorney for being too involved in county matters unrelated to the office, but subsequently criticized Glazar for not being involved in issues that did not concern the public defender’s office.

“Rowe is speaking out of both sides of his face,” Glazar said. “I’m passionate about this job, and passionate about a well-run, well-managed state’s attorney's office that does its best to keep our residents safe.”

Glazar, 62, is an attorney practicing in Kankakee County for over three decades.
