Nurses and other health providers can learn about dealing with stroke victims as well as managing stress at two daylong seminars at Kankakee Community College (KCC), according to a press release.
“Different Strokes for Different Folks,” which is being offered on Tuesday, Sept. 12, focuses on information about caring for stroke victims. Participants will receive 5.5 contact hours for completion.
The latest information on stroke diagnoses and treatment is included in the course, along with the “FAST” mnemonic and the clinical presentation of stroke syndromes in people of all ages. Other information includes reviewing functioning neuroanatomy correlated with anterior and posterior blood supply, signs and symptoms of various types of strokes, and treatment and prevention of strokes.
On Wednesday, Sept. 27, KCC will offer “New Approaches to Stress & Life Management,” which will help participants identity sources of stress and reprogram behavioral responses. KCC offers 6.5 contact hours to social workers, counselors and nurses who complete the course.
The class will also explain how the brain’s left and right hemispheres can be used to communicate with each other. Exercises will teach techniques that encourage healthier brain functioning and strategies to reduce, prevent and manage stress.
Each course costs $79. More information about the course can be found on the school's website.
