Kankakee schools have a reminder for drivers: When the school bus stops, so should you.
On its Facebook page, Kankakee School District 111 recently posted the following safety warning:
"It is unlawful for a driver to pass a school bus that has stopped to load or unload children when its stop signal arm is extended. The driver is required to stop his or her vehicle before passing the school bus from either direction."
The district noted that the only time a driver doesn't have to stop is when he is on a highway with four or more lanes that has a minimum of two lanes in both directions and the driver is heading in the opposite direction of the bus.
