Kankakee Community College said in a press release six high school participants from its TRIO Talent Search and Upward Bound programs were named Illinois State scholars Dec. 20, 2017.

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission recognized each for their academic achievement.

"This shows their continued hard work and perseverance throughout their high school years," said Cierra Davis, assistant director of TRIO Talent Search, in a press release. "Congratulations! We are so proud of you.”

“The Illinois State Scholars are: (from TRIO Talent Search) Ziyan Chen, Jaylin Schreiner and Sidney Winfield; and (from TRIO Upward Bound) Leotis Davenport, Tamia Eugene, and Lisa Martin,” the release states.

TRIO Talent Search and Upward Bound are two higher education outreach groups supported by the U.S. Department of Education.
