Kankakee County Executive Committee met April 24.

Here is the minutes provided by the Committee:

Members Present

1. Call to Order

The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, Mr. Wheeler, at 9:00 a.m. Quorum present.

2. Public Comment

3. Presentations

4. Approval of Minutes: March 27, 2018

The minutes were not ready.

5. Legislative – Steve Liehr

Mr. Liehr stated that the UCCI did not have a meeting this month. There is no major legislation that they are reporting on.

6. Appointments

None

7. Information Services – Kevin Duval

Mr. Duval stated that they are now working in the Circuit Clerk’s Office, and it is going well.

Mr. Duval also stated that Chairman Wheeler has requested that, in case there is an emergency vote and a board member cannot attend, they would be able to vote without being present. He is looking at videoconference options for members who cannot be at a meeting due to health issues.

8. Health Department – John Bevis

 Suspected Food Borne Illness Investigation

Mr. Bevis stated that there was a bar that hosted a ticketed drinking party where food would be provided. The food was catered into the location, and the alcohol was from out of state. There were about 50 people at the event, and about half of those people became ill. Some of the drinks were made with raw eggs.

Mr. Washington asked if there was any information about the romaine lettuce recall.

Mr. Bevis stated that they have not heard of any cases in the area, but they are watching the situation. Often, the grocery stores will pull the items before the department gets involved.

 Synthetic Cannabinoids

Mr. Bevis stated that the Illinois Department of Public Health contacted him to notify them that they are investigating synthetic cannabinoids that were made with rat poison. The material did not originate and was not consumed in Kankakee County, but two affected individuals were from Kankakee County.

 Opioid Forum May 8, 2018

Mr. Bevis stated that the opioid forum will be on Tuesday, May 8th, at 7:00 p.m., in the Kresge

Auditorium at Olivet Nazarene University.

9. Schools – Dr. Gregg Murphy

Dr. Murphy was not present.

10. Veterans Assistance Commission - Karen Smietanski

 Monthly Report

Mr. LaGesse made a motion to approve the monthly report, and Mr. Byrne seconded it. Motion carried with a voice vote.

Ms. Smietanski stated that Derek Torres has been hired as their superintendent and will be starting on May 1st.

Ms. Smietanski also stated that Veteran’s Court graduation is scheduled for May 24th at 11:30 a.m. in Courtroom 110.

12. Administrative Issues

 Resignations/Appointments/Reappointments:

Mr. Sirois made a motion to combine and approve all of the reappointments and to waive the reading, and Mr. Olthoff seconded it. Motion carried with a voice vote.

 Reappointment of Patrick Koerner to the Cabery Area Fire Protection District

Mr. Wheeler announced the above openings.

Mr. LaGesse made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 9:55 a.m., and Mr. Snipes seconded it. Motion carried with a voice vote.
