Kankakee School District 111 Board of Education met Sept. 27.

The following discussion was held:
1. Approval of Minutes
Motion by Johnston. Seconded by Gathing. Motion carried.
2. Spurs Stadium Signage
The Finance Committee discussed future signage outside of the High School Football field. An agreement was made that members from the “Spurs Supports” would work collaboratively with District representatives to determine the content on the sign. District representatives would determine the design of the sign.
3. District Vehicles
Mr. Kaplanes discussed the District’s winter plan with the Finance Committee. District officials believe that the District would save money in the long-term if it were to purchase salt in bulk rather than by individual bags. District officials plan to present a cost analysis at a future finance meeting.
4. Air Conditioning
At the previous board meeting, the board had a discussion surrounding going for a referendum to air condition the District’s buildings. The board unanimously agreed that the District should not pursue a referendum. The finance committee discussed this in further detail and analyzed the cost of adding air at each building. The finance committee determined that it will not pursue a referendum at this time.
5. Other
The District discussed its future bonding scenarios. There will be more detail at a future finance meeting. The finance committee also advised administration to gather more information regarding city TIFs.
A motion was made by Ms. Johnston to close the meeting at 6:20. Seconded by Mr. Gathing.
