Kankakee School District 111 Board of Education met June 25.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

A Special meeting of the Board of Education of Kankakee School District No. 111, Kankakee County, Illinois, was held at 5:30 p.m. in Room 217 at Lincoln Cultural Center, 240 Warren Avenue, Kankakee, Illinois.

ROLL CALL

Members present: Mary Archie

Jess Gathing, Vice President

Deb Johnston

Angela Shea, Secretary

Barbara A. Wells, President

Members absent: Christopher Bohlen

Darrell Williams (*entered at 5:35 PM)

A quorum was declared present.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Board President Wells.

Meeting with the Board were:

Dr. Genevra A. Walters, Superintendent

Dr. Kathleen O’Connor, Assistant Superintendent

Annette Pancotto, Recording Secretary

No news reporters were present.

Superintendent’s Report

Dr. Walters gave a report on the 2019/2020 School Schedules. The Junior High School and High School will be starting at 7:40 a.m. and getting out a little earlier. The students that will receive additional support or interventions will stay later (behavior, curriculum content struggle or missing assignments). All of Montessori will mirror the Junior High School and High School schedule. Final Schedule and more details will be provided at next July 8, 2019 BOE Meeting.

Dr. Walters acknowledged eLearning with regards to the new legislation and stated that the District will be able to continue eLearning because of the waivers received from ISBE based on the District having competency based learning at the Junior High and High Schools. The District will also be able to integrate the other District schools into the waiver for eLearning.

President Wells asked for a motion to approve the consent agenda.

Motion was made by Shea, seconded by Johnston, to approve the above listed Consent Agenda items as presented. ROLL CALL VOTE--Archie, Gathing, Johnston, Shea, Williams, and Wells. Nays: none. Motion carried.

Dr. O’Connor introduced and welcomed newly hired Assistant Principal at Junior High School, Jacqanai Gipson.
