Bourbonnais Police Department issued the following announcement on Aug. 21.
Residents please be informed Janis Skels and Kristaps Klavins from Southwestern Advantage Book Company have successfully completed the background requirements by the Bourbonnais Police Department for a Village of Bourbonnais solicitors' permit through 9.19.19. They are selling educational books, software and website subscriptions.
They will have a badge available, complete with a unique identification number from the village (Permit #19-008, #19-009), and must present this to you upon request. If a solicitor visits your home without Village of Bourbonnais-issued identification, please contact Bourbonnais Police.
1. BEFORE YOU GET UPSET, THIS IS IN ACCORDANCE WITH STATE LAW. Soliciting in Illinois is legal as long as the applicant follows local government policy.
2. The Village of Bourbonnais CHOOSES TO INFORM OUR RESIDENTS so that you are aware of who is in your neighborhood. Public safety is always our #1 priority.
3. The fees charged for solicitor permits cover the cost of administration filing and background check (this is not revenue-generating income for the village).
4. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Bourbonnais Police Department 815-937-3579. Thank you!
