The Iroquois County Public Health Department conducted a private investigation on an individual who returned home from a trip to China in February, before COVID-19 spread throughout the nation.
ICPHD Administrator Dee Schippert said the individual was under investigation and quarantined for 14 days.
“People didn’t know we were investigating someone for 14 days. (The health department) is working behind the scenes," Schippert told the County Board. “It was not a case of coronavirus, but it was an investigation."
She also told the Board that not everyone who carries the virus gets ill, according to the Iroquois County Times-Republic.
“You can be infected with the coronavirus and not get ill,” Schippert said. "There are people who didn’t seek medical attention and it wasn’t diagnosed."
As of May 9, Illinois reported 76,085 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, including 3,349 deaths. Iroquois County has 89 confirmed cases of COVID-19.
