City of Momence City Council met March 16.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The City Council Meeting of the City of Momence was held in the Council Chambers at 29 N. Dixie Highway, Momence. Mayor Chuck Steele called the meeting to order.

ROLL CALL

Roll was called by the Clerk with Aldermen Salomone, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope. Alderman Carbonaro was absent.

APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES

Alderman Rehmer made motion to approve the minutes of the March 2, 2020 council meeting. Alderman Salomone seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Temple and Cope voting yes. Alderman Cook passed.

APPROVAL OF THE BILLS

The bills were discussed at tonight's Budget and Finance Committee Meeting. Alderman Salomone made motion to approve the bills for payment. Alderman Metz seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

CITZEN FORUM –Thomas Peterson – vendor request – August 8 and 9 Washington/Maple (southwest corner) East of the Chocolate Factory. 9am – dark. Alderman Cook made motion to approve, Alderman Salomone seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

OLD BUSINESS – Alderman Cope asking about questions of 2030. Indicated that this is a plan for the next 10 years. Alderman Rehmer states that he has receive negative input, would this need to be accepted in whole part? Alderman Cope stated no, this is just a guide. Alderman Rehmer stated that there is quite a bit of negative on the re-naming of the town from Old Bordertown. This can evolve and change as time goes on, voting on it as a vision instead of separate parts. There are phases, 1-3. Alderman Metz asking what are we looking at in phase one? Alderman Salomone stated we will need an action plan. Mayor stated there are many items listed in the 2030 already in process. There isn’t going to be a deadline for certain things to be done, it’ll be designated on time and money available at the time. Alderman Cook stated that passing this gave the council a way to achieve some funding to cover the cost.

Alderman Metz – stop signs on Maple, Scott indicated that he did not have a decision, it was up to the council. Is this feasible? Chief Brucato stated that he would put an extra patrol to monitor the situation.

Alderman Salomone – census update – should be receiving in the mail this week. Encourage citizens to complete online due to the current circumstances.

ALDERMANIC REPORTS –

1. Rebekah Cope – Discuss and Vote Vision 2030, Alderman Cope made motion to approve, Alderman Cook seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

2. Salomone – BF April 6, 7:15 PM

3. Rehmer – Scott when will leaves be picked up, Scott indicated they are waiting due to weather. 

Treasurer report –

Department Heads – Tina concerned with the virus possibly limiting the time in city hall when things can be dropped off/paid in person.

MAYORAL REPORT –need a motion for the Mayor to have Authorization to sign checks for bills without holding a meeting. Alderman Cook made motion to approve, Alderman Temple seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

Mayor requested Sue to print in the Progress Reporter about how to pay at City Hall due to the recent health pandemic, also to fill out the Census.

Alderman Metz made motion to adjourn, Alderman Temple seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

Meeting adjourned at 7:58 PM
