City of Momence City Council met May 18.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The City Council Meeting of the City of Momence was held in the Council Chambers at 29 N. Dixie Highway, Momence. Mayor Chuck Steele called the meeting to order.

ROLL CALL

Roll was called by the Clerk with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope. Alderman Clark was absent.

APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES

Alderman Salomone made motion to approve the minutes of the May 4, 2020 council meeting. Alderman Temple seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

APPROVAL OF THE BILLS

The bills were discussed during open session. One bill added for $763.75, attorney bill. Alderman Rehmer questioned 4634.00, Alderman Salomone commented that this is the yearly bill for the police cars system, software service charge. Alderman Salomone made motion to approve the bills for payment. Alderman Metz seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

CITZEN FORUM – Ed VanDrunen is requesting shore line grading in front of Future Cueticals, looking for permission from the City to do this work. The grading will prevent the ground from holding water, would be easier for them to maintain. Mayor is not aware of any permits that the City would have to provide, Engineers would acquire what is needed. Alderman Cook made motion to approve, Alderman Cope seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

Alderman Cook wants to table the water bill issue until the attorney can weigh in.

OLD BUSINESS – Alderman Salomone commented that they Census is moving slowly, the completed rate is lower. The door to door has not started due to Covid – 19.

ALDERMANIC REPORTS – Alderman Cope asked if garage sales would be permitted this summer due to Covid. Alderman Cook commented that we should allow as long as the state doesn’t have anything against it. Alderman Cope also asked about the residential flooding…with all the rain lately, is there anything that can be done to alleviate some of the problem. Issue seems to be around Hickory and Second Street.

Scott stated that there is no storm sewer there. This is the last spot for the water to go down.

Alderman Salomone – if he needs to call a BF meeting, he will post

Treasurer report – balanced through April 30, end of fiscal year.

Department Heads – Chief Brucato – Golf Cart registration with be middle of June due to Covid, 2 Saturdays back to back from 7:30 – noon.

Also, code enforcement, 6-3-2, to keep premises clean. Chief would like to add onto to make more specific and to raise fine to $250.00. Alderman Cope to look into the ordinance.

Tina – Farmers Market is a go for 6/17/20.

MAYORAL REPORT –

Fireworks still on table, decision will need to be made by the first meeting in June.

Governor is set to meet with the State Legislation to decide on some things, waiting to see if this will affect us opening.

All businesses closed; liquor licenses were postponed. Should we prorate or give a discount for months of use? Please think about it, need input by the next meeting. Should be continue with Zoom meeting? We do need to have an executive session, which we’ve put on hold due to Covid. We will be meeting via Zoom on June 1, will discuss on the next meeting as to the next step for Council meetings

Alderman Metz made motion to adjourn, Alderman Salomone seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.
