City of Momence City Council met July 1.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The City Council Meeting of the City of Momence was held in the Council Chambers at 29 N. Dixie Highway, Momence. Mayor Chuck Steele called the meeting to order.

ROLL CALL

Roll was called by the Clerk with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope.

APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES

Alderman Salomone made motion to approve the minutes of the May 18, 2020 council meeting. Alderman Rehmer seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

APPROVAL OF THE BILLS

The bills were discussed during open session. Alderman Salomone made motion to approve the bills for payment. Alderman Clark seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Rehmer, Clark, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

CITZEN FORUM – Tony Lampley/Off the Vine asking for permission to block off parking spaces on Washington in front of business for more seating. Mayor stated no, would be better to use more sidewalk space. We need to keep it fair for all the businesses. Park District indicated that they would give use of tables for the businesses.

OLD BUSINESS – Alderman Salomone – 67.1% response rate for Census from Momence.

Alderman Cook – citizen requesting council to consider reduction of water bill - 2 Maple Street properties need repair; both have outstanding water bills totaling $4234.98. Both properties are vacant at this time. Alderman Cook suggesting to reduce the bill to $1282.33, waving the penalty of $2952.65 to make it possible for the properties to be purchased. Alderman Metz stated to wave the penalty, reduce to 1500.00 on the total. Property has a lien. If 514 Maple sells, 516 Maple goes in the same deal. Alderman Cook made motion to approve, Alderman Metz seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

ALDERMANIC REPORTS – Alderman Rehmer – Methodist Church is requesting alley between 3rd and 4th street to be closed during church service on June 21 for an outdoor service from 7am – 11am. Alderman Rehmer made a motion to approve, Alderman Temple seconded the motion with

Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

Alderman Salomone – Budget and Finance June 15, 7:15 PM. Budget to be sent out soon, will be sent to department heads to firm up numbers.

Alderman Metz – inquiring if new plates for the new trucks were purchased or if we can transfer.

Scott indicated that it costs more to transfer, new ones were purchased.

Treasurer report – working on treasurer’s report

Department Heads – Chief Brucato posted in Progress Reporter Golf Cart registration June 13 and 20 from 8AM – 1PM $25.00 fee

Scott – committee meeting June 15, 7PM, should only take 15 mins

Tina – adjudication to resume June 22, June 11 Variance Meeting 6PM

MAYORAL REPORT –

Fireworks will go on as planned, Saturday July 4 at dusk.

Alderman Salomone made motion to adjourn, Alderman Metz seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.
