Momence City Council met July 6.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The City Council Meeting of the City of Momence was held in the Council Chambers at 29 N. Dixie Highway, Momence. Alderman Cook called the meeting to order.

ROLL CALL

Roll was called by the Clerk with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope. Mayor Steele was absent.

Alderman Cook asked for a motion to be appointed as acting Mayor in Mayor Steele absence. Alderman Rehmer made motion to appoint Alderman Cook as acting Mayor. Alderman Salomone seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES

Alderman Salomone made motion to approve the minutes of the June 15, 2020 council meeting. Alderman Metz seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

APPROVAL OF THE BILLS

The bills were discussed during open session. Alderman Salomone made motion to approve the bills for payment. Alderman Metz seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Rehmer, Clark, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

CITIZENS FORUM –

1. Tony Lampley – Street closure change of date, moving to July 25. Alderman Metz made motion to approve, Alderman Temple seconded the motion with Alderman Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

2. Connect Kankakee – presentation of 8Can’tWait by Mya Hendrix

3. Steve Gross – Community Activities - wants to promote a community wide garage the weekend of the what would have been the festival. Would like to see that fees would be waved for the garage sale. Also, would like to do a Best We Can Do golf cart parade on Saturday, August 8th. Asking for street Closure from Pine to Franklin on Washington Street during the day from 8am – 3pm. Alderman Rehmer made motion to approve, Alderman Temple seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

4. Leslie Quazada – express the importance of policing, more just society, sharing support to law enforcement

5. Julia McDonald – concerns about recent comments by Mayor

6. Jim Duggan – Diversity from Manteno, 8 can’t wait.

7. Travis Miller – Black Lives Matter

8. Anna Dattilo – BLM personal accountability from Mayor Steele and call to action. Adopt 8 can’t wait and racial literacy and training.

9. S. Johnson – Hopkins to Momence racism now

OLD BUSINESS –

ALDERMANIC REPORTS – Alderman Cope read a letter based on her personal experience from the past few weeks with the Mayor and the protest.

Alderman Cook – vote on the Ford (405 N. Franklin Street) Variance from the Planning and Zoning committee. Alderman Cope made motion to approve, Alderman Temple seconded the motion with

Alderman Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

Alderman Rehmer will be absent during the August 3 meeting, also wants to schedule a police committee meeting for July 20 at 6:15PM

Alderman Metz – public works met and discussed MFT funds to be used for Indiana Street and patch work around town. Alderman Metz made motion to approve, Alderman Salomone seconded the motion with Alderman Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

Clarifier – looking for proposals. Public Works meeting 6:45 PM July 20

Alderman Salomone – Budget and Finance July 20, 7:15 PM. 

Appropriation - Vote will be July 20.

Treasurer report – treasurer report is completed

Department Heads – Tina – garbage bills will be going up.52

Scott – Public works 7pm

MAYORAL REPORT – the variance for Denton on Hickory Street had to be re-voted on during to the previous meeting. Alderman Metz made motion to approve, Alderman Salomone seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

Alderman Cook asked for a motion to move into executive session to come out to do business. Alderman Metz made motion, Alderman Salomone seconded the motion with Alderman Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

Adjourned to executive session as 8:28 PM
