City of Momence City Council met Aug. 3.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The City Council Meeting of the City of Momence was held in the Council Chambers at 29 N. Dixie Highway, Momence. Alderman Cook called the meeting to order.

ROLL CALL

Roll was called by the Clerk with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Cook, Temple and Cope. Alderman Rehmer was absent.

APPROVAL OF PREVIOUS MEETING MINUTES

Alderman Cook made motion to approve the minutes of the July 20, 2020 council meeting.

Alderman Salomone seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes. Alderman Clark passed

APPROVAL OF THE BILLS

The bills were discussed during committee meeting. Alderman Salomone made motion to approve the bills for payment. Alderman Metz seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Rehmer, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

CITIZENS FORUM –

1. Angela Thompson – Blocking off alley behind Rich’s on Aug. 9th Requested alley closure on Friday, Saturday and Sunday – August 7, 8 and 9. Alderman Metz made motion to approve,

Alderman Clark seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.

2. Ann Cobb – Work request for Street and Alley – insurance audit must remove the slide. Asking City for assistance digging holes

3. Julia McDonald - addressing protests

4. Sophia Bos Shaw – BLM

5. Alex Quezada – Mayor’s comments

6. Norman Davis – supporting the Mayor

7. Patrick Sweetie – BLM

8. Carrie Navratil – BLM

9. Romel Huddleston – supporting town and Mayor

10. Mya Hendrix – regarding Chuck Steele

11. Anne Roman – support the Mayor

OLD BUSINESS – Alderman Salomone census update – opportunity at school registration. 68.5% response rate, still room for improvement

ALDERMANIC REPORTS – Alderman Metz – Public Works meeting August 17, 6:45 PM

Alderman Salomone – Budget and Finance meeting 7:15 PM

Alderman Cope – had not received the ordinances and left the meeting due to a family emergency

Treasurer report –

Department Heads – Tina – Aunt Martha’s free Covid testing end of August at the Police Department outdoor

Chief – Troy Jacobson to fill FT position, he is a part-time officer currently.

MAYORAL REPORT – met with NAACP – Chief has signed the 10 shared principles 8 can’t wait is under review

Alderman Metz made motion to adjourn, Alderman Salomone seconded the motion with Aldermen Salomone, Carbonaro, Metz, Clark, Cook, Temple and Cope voting yes.
