Kankakee County Community Services Committee met Aug. 16.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

The meeting of the Kankakee County Community Services Committee was held on August 16, 2022 and was called to order by Committee Chairman, Mrs. Webber at 9:00am. The following members were present:

Mr. Smith made a motion to allow Mr. Ekhoff to attend by zoom, and Ms. Polk seconded it. Motion carried with a voice vote.

Mrs. Webber, Mrs. Polk, Mr. Snipes, Mr. Carrico, Ms. Hudson, Mr. Kenneth Smith, Ms. Peters, Ms. Bryan, Mr. Kerkstra, Mr. Ekhoff and Mr. Wheeler

Members Absent – Ms. Parker, Mr. Tholen, Mr. Alexander-Hildebrand, Mr. Rayman and Mr. Sirois

Quorum – Present

Department Heads Present – John Coghlan, Erich Blair, Dan Hendrickson, Kari Laird, Anita Speckman and Lori Gadbois

Media Present – None

Minutes of the Last Meeting

The minutes of July 19, 2022 were submitted to the committee.

Ms. Hudson made a motion to approve, and Mr. Smith seconded it. Motion carried with a voice vote.

County Clerk

Drawing for County Board Member Terms

Mr. Hendrickson reviewed the terms for county board members with the committee. There is a lottery to determine the terms of the districts. They are separated by even numbered and odd numbered. Whichever number is pulled, that will be for the four-year term. #1 on the ball represents the odd numbered districts

#2 on the ball represents the even numbered districts

A # 1 ball was pulled and the odd numbered districts will have a four-year term. The even numbered districts is a 2 year term and will run again in 2024.

Monthly Report

Mr. Hendrickson reviewed the report. There were no questions from the committee.

Ms. Polk made a motion to approve, and Ms. Peters seconded it. Motion carried with a voice vote.

Mr. Hendrickson updated the committee on voting dates, mail-in voting and how to be an election judge.

Assessor

Monthly Report

Mr. Blair reviewed the report with the committee.

Discussions were held on exemptions.

Mr. Carrico made a motion to approve, and Ms. Peters seconded it. Motion carried with a voice vote.

Recorder

Monthly Report

Ms. Gadbois reviewed the report with the committee.

Mr. Kerkstra made a motion to approve, and Mr. Snipes seconded it. Motion carried with a voice vote.

Animal Control

Monthly Report

Ms. Laird, Animal Control Director, reviewed the monthly report with the committee, highlighting areas of the report. Discussions were held.

Ms. Polk made a motion to approve, and Mr. Ekhoff seconded it. Motion carried with a voice vote.

Monthly Statistical Data

Ms. Laird, Animal Control Director, reviewed the monthly statistical data with the committee. Discussions were held.

Ms. Laird provided the committee with an update on the new Animal Control Building and provided an update on donations. Discussions were held.

Animal Welfare Advisory Committee

Monthly Update

Ms. Webber provided a brief update to the committee.

Mr. Kerkstra made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 9:44 a.m. Ms. Polk seconded the motion. Motion carried by a voice vote.
