A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the City of Momence regarding unpaid parking violations on October 28, 2024. We at Kankakee Times, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, requested this information under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140.
The request specifically asked for a list of all parking violations currently unpaid in the city. This includes details such as the name of the offender, their address, the amount due for each violation, the date when the violation occurred, and the total amount due.
As a media organization dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, we believe access to these public records is essential. We are involved in gathering and reporting news to the public and therefore have requested a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await a response from the City of Momence regarding this request.
