A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Iroquois County Sheriff's office on January 7, 2025. The request was made by us at Kankakee Times, a media organization dedicated to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.
The request specifically sought access to arrest records from the year 2024 under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140. We requested this information in an electronic format for ease of use and analysis.
The details we asked for include a list of all arrests made from January 1, 2024, till December 31, 2024. The specific fields we requested are: Arrestee Name, Arrest Date, Arrestee Gender, Arrestee Race, Arrestee's Date of Birth, and Crime Committed.
As members of the media committed to holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public, we believe access to these public records is essential. Given our role in disseminating information to the public, we also requested a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await a response from the Iroquois County Sheriff's office and will keep our readers updated on any developments regarding this request.
