Robin Kelly, a congresswoman representing Illinois' 2nd district, has shared a series of statements highlighting her positions on recent legislative actions. Kelly has been serving in the U.S. Congress since 2013, and her comments reflect both her criticism of Republican policies and her commitments to engaging with her constituents.
On April 10, 2025, Robin Kelly expressed concern regarding the Republican-backed “SAVE” Act. "This morning, Republicans will push the “SAVE” Act, which requires a passport or a birth certificate with a photo ID to vote." She argues that the act would lead to voter disenfranchisement, affecting approximately 2.5 million women in Illinois whose married names do not match their birth certificates.
Later that day, Kelly criticized the Republican-led budget saying it would have significant negative economic consequences. "Republicans just passed a budget that: Cuts Medicaid by $880 billion Cuts food aid by $230 billion Gives top 0.1% a $314,266 annual tax cut Raises debt limit by $5 trillion." She contends that the budget reflects self-enrichment and would harm the economy and working Americans.
Kelly also announced her plans to engage directly with constituents through an upcoming town hall. "I’m touring the District to hear directly from YOU in a series of town halls." The event is scheduled for the following Wednesday in Pontiac and will feature Ed Yohnka from ACLU of Illinois. Kelly emphasizes the importance of such interactions for addressing the concerns and questions of her constituents.
Robin Kelly replaced Jesse Jackson Jr. in 2013 and previously served in the Illinois House of Representatives. She has lived a life rooted in public service, beginning with her education at Bradley University.
