Robin Kelly, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Illinois' 2nd district since 2013, has recently shared her views on various actions taken by President Trump through a series of tweets. Kelly, who succeeded Jesse Jackson Jr., has expressed concerns about budgetary and healthcare decisions that she believes could adversely affect many Americans.
On June 4, 2025, Robin Kelly criticized President Trump's recissions package in a tweet stating "President Trump’s recissions package is needlessly cruel and evil. He is stealing $9.4 billion – money that has already been designated by Congress – from Sesame Street to Main Street, hurting everyday Americans to give tax breaks to the well-off and well-connected." She suggests that these actions are designed to benefit affluent individuals at the expense of public programs.
In another tweet posted later the same day, Kelly emphasized the importance of emergency abortion care. She stated "Let’s be clear: emergency abortion care saves lives. EMTALA requires hospitals to provide any lifesaving care — but President Trump rescinded a guidance targeting emergency abortions. His decision will threaten the lives of pregnant patients." This highlights her concern over policy changes she perceives as life-threatening for pregnant women requiring emergency medical attention.
Furthermore, Kelly addressed recent developments concerning Medicaid cuts on June 4, 2025. She noted "Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill” just got a lot uglier. The NONPARTISAN Congressional Budget Office released an updated analysis of the Republican budget cuts to Medicaid: 16 MILLION people will lose their healthcare. These Republican cuts are reckless and devastating." Here she refers to an analysis by the Congressional Budget Office predicting significant losses in healthcare coverage due to proposed budget reductions.
Kelly's background includes service in both federal and state legislatures since her tenure began in 2013 after serving in the Illinois House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007. Born in New York City in 1956, she currently resides in Matteson and holds a BA from Bradley University.
