Robin Kelly, U.S. Congresswoman representing Illinois’ 2nd district, posted a series of tweets on July 19, 2025, addressing both national policy concerns and a local community event.
In her first post of the day, Kelly criticized former President Trump’s fiscal policies and House Republicans. She wrote, "President Trump's agenda isn't lowering costs — it's raising alarm bells. These reckless cuts, rubberstamped by House Republicans, gut critical services for all Americans, just to fund tax breaks for billionaires. We must fight for working families, not the ultra-rich." (July 19, 2025).
Later that morning, she promoted a community service initiative: " Happening TODAY! Join us until 1 PM for our Chicago Passport Event – we're here to help first-time applicants AND those looking to renew their passports.
Have questions? Call us at 773-321-2001 – we’ve got you covered!" (July 19, 2025).
In a subsequent tweet that afternoon, Kelly expressed concern over proposed budget cuts impacting public broadcasting and emergency communication services. She stated, "President Trump’s cuts are a direct assault on the public. They threaten vital local news, emergency alerts, and even beloved PBS KIDS programming like Sesame Street, disproportionately harming rural and smaller communities who rely on these services. This is unacceptable." (July 19, 2025).
Robin Kelly has represented Illinois's 2nd District in Congress since replacing Jesse Jackson Jr. in 2013. Before serving in Congress, she was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007. Born in New York City in 1956 and currently residing in Matteson at age 66, Kelly earned her undergraduate degree from Bradley University in 1977.
