Robin Kelly, U.S. Congresswoman representing Illinois’ 2nd district since 2013, addressed issues of school safety and healthcare in a series of posts on her official Twitter account on July 25 and 26, 2025.

On July 25, Kelly expressed support for legislative efforts aimed at reducing violence in schools. She wrote, "Safer schools & brighter futures: That is why I support @RepJahanaHayes School Violence Prevention Act. We must invest in our youth’s mental health, promote healing from trauma, and foster safe environments from gun violence."

The following day, Kelly criticized recent Republican-backed legislation regarding tax policy and healthcare access. In one post dated July 26, she stated, "The Big, Ugly Law puts tax breaks for billionaires over families, and every Republican who voted for this law owns the consequences for families like Kairo’s and the nearly half a million Illinoisans who will lose healthcare." In another tweet published at the same time, she added concerns about Medicaid cuts: "Still thinking of Kairo’s family, and the countless others, who rely on Medicaid for healthcare. Republicans’ Medicaid cuts mean families like Kairo’s will have to choose between lifesaving treatment and bankruptcy. Hospitals could close and whole communities will suffer."

Kelly has represented Illinois's 2nd District in Congress since replacing Jesse Jackson Jr. in 2013. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in the Illinois House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007. Born in New York City in 1956 and currently residing in Matteson, Kelly graduated from Bradley University with a BA in 1977.
