U.S. Representative Robin Kelly, who has represented Illinois’ 2nd district in Congress since 2013, marked the anniversary of several key moments in American civil rights and health care policy through a series of posts on July 26, 2025.
In her first post of the day, Kelly commemorated more than three decades since the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), writing, "Today we celebrate 35 years of the ADA. It broke barriers and expanded the rights of people with disabilities, but there is still work to do. At a time when equity, inclusion & access are under attack, we must continue to defend the ADA & expand its protections." (July 26, 2025)
Later that afternoon, she criticized recent Republican efforts regarding health care legislation: "President Trump and @HouseGOP failed to repeal the ACA in 2017, so now they’re working to make health care harder to access. Under the Big, Ugly Law, premiums in our district are expected to rise by an average of $1,290 – hitting families where it hurts most." (July 26, 2025)
In a third post that evening reflecting on historical progress toward equality in America’s armed forces, Kelly wrote: "In 1948, President Truman's Executive Order abolished segregation in our armed forces. His work wasn't easy and faced resistance. But that effort inspires me: progress always takes courage and commitment, especially amidst adversity." (July 26, 2025)
Robin Kelly has served as U.S. Representative for Illinois’s 2nd District since replacing Jesse Jackson Jr. in 2013. Before her tenure in Congress began over a decade ago, she was a member of the Illinois House of Representatives from 2003 to 2007. Born in New York City in 1956 and currently residing in Matteson at age sixty-six, Kelly is also an alumna of Bradley University’s class of 1977.
