U.S. Representative Robin Kelly, who has a history of winning her Illinois congressional races by wide margins, used Labor Day 2025 to highlight workers’ rights and criticize recent federal policy changes. In a series of posts on September 1, 2025, Kelly addressed labor issues, social safety net programs, and her ongoing engagement with constituents.
In her first post of the day, Kelly stated: "This Labor Day, let’s honor the workers and unions who built our nation and the middle class. We must recommit to protecting workers’ rights and fair wages—especially as the Trump Administration continues its attacks on working families." (September 1, 2025)
Later that afternoon, she criticized legislative actions supported by President Trump and House Republicans: "President Trump and @HouseGop's Big Ugly Law cuts SNAP, Medicare, and Medicaid, making it difficult for hardworking American families to get the support they need—while giving more breaks to billionaires." (September 1, 2025)
Reflecting on her work within her district over the past month, Kelly wrote: "August was a busy month as I traveled throughout the District — from our annual barn hall to town halls and every event in between. I’m grateful for your input and trust. Your voice guides me as I continue fighting for you in Washington." (September 1, 2025)
Robin Kelly has consistently secured re-election since first entering Congress. In recent cycles she defeated Thomas Lynch in 2022 with over two-thirds of the vote; prior victories include wins against Theresa Raborn in 2020 (78.8%), David Merkle in 2018 (81.1%), John Morrow in 2016 (79.8%), and Eric Wallace in 2014 (78.5%). These results reflect strong support within her district.
