The Momence City Council approved a rezoning request for the property at 124 E. River St. during its Feb. 15 meeting.
The property has been used for retail in the past but is being sold to a new owner interested in developing the property into a metal manufacturing facility.
The approved rezoning request will shift the property from B-1 zoning to M-1 manufacturing district zoning.
Council members said the change is not limited to metals manufacturing and would cover other types of manufacturing if the business ever leaves the property.
