Momence Mayor Mick Porter announced Monday that Norfolk Southern Railroad will begin work this spring on crossing gates and related work at the Ash Street and Market Street railroad crossings.
Porter says the project will require curb construction as well as the widening of the turning radius on Ash Street. Upon completion, the city will close and clear the railroad's nearby property, which includes the area south of the railroad tracks between Maple Street and Ash Street in addition to the road between Ash Street and Chestnut Street.
The city's cost for the project is estimated at approximately $5,000.
Casey's General Store has also been permitted to establish a location at Dixie Highway and 5th Street and plans for curb work there have been sent to IDOT.
Neither project has a firm starting date.
