Northbrook officials announced Monday that crews are preparing to replace old gas mains in Northbrook to make way for the new storm sewer to be installed through the Wescott Park stormwater project.
Gas main construction on Farnsworth Lane and Sunnyside Circle was scheduled to begin as early as Friday, depending on the weather.
Village officials expect the new system will mitigate stormwater flooding damage in the streets surrounding Wescott Park and increase flood protection from five years to 25 years.
The overall project was created from a 2011 planning process among village officials that identified 31 important capital projects.
Project leaders will post regular updates about the project on the project's website.
