Momence has approved a new server for its police as well as the switch to GovPay.
The Momence City Council approved a new computer server for the Momence Police Department during a regular meeting on March 7.
Alderman Rich Kupferer said the upgrade would cost $6,054 and would be paid for out of the city's truck ordinance funds built into the 2016 budget. Kupferer said the fix would prevent the city from dealing with an emergency break of the outdated server, which he believes could cost up to $20,000 to fix under emergency circumstances.
The city will also change its online bill payment service from EPAY to GovPay. Council members said GovPay will give residents the opportunity to pay water and sewer bills online and give the city greater protection against payments that get bounced back.
Police Chief Jeffery Cavender announced the department would also be forming a citizen police academy that will run from Aug. 25 to Oct. 6 and will take approximately 20-25 students.
Alderman Diann Denton was absent.
