Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of Bourbonnais Elementary School District No. 53, Kankakee County, Illinois was called to order by President Rob Rodewald on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at 7:00 pm at the Administrative Offices, 281 W John Casey Road, Bourbonnais, IL.

1.02 Pledge of Allegiance.

1.03 The following members answered roll call: Michael Jurka, Jamie Freedlund, Rich McBarnes, Nicole McCarty, Jayne Raef, Rob Rodewald.

Motion by Rich McBarnes, second by Nicole McCarty to approve routine business/consent agenda as presented. The following voice votes were heard: Ayes: Jamie Freedlund, Michael Jurka, Rich McBarnes, Nicole McCarty, Jayne Raef, Rob Rodewald. Nays: None. Absent: John Hall.

Final Resolution: Motion Carries.

5. Mission of Bourbonnais Elementary School District #53 is to: Collaborate with staff, students, families, and community

5.01 Quarterly Financial Report-End of Year - Dennis Crawford, Director of Business Services

Dennis Crawford, Director of Business Services presented the end of 2016-2017 financial report. Mr. Crawford compared actual revenue and expenditures to the annual budget. Mr. Crawford reported property taxes received - $14,383,568 of $14,400,779 Budget = 99.8%.

General State Aid received as scheduled. State Categorical Revenue received of $834,948 is 46% of budget. Federal Grants Revenue received of $1,402,351 is 78% of budget.

Capital spending to date $3,176,091. Revenues came in $972,782 under.

Expenditures came in $219,504 under. Net loss from expected: $-753,278. Discussion followed.

5.02 Discussion of Legislative Updates

State Representative Lindsay Parkhurst explained the State Budget process and school funding bill to the Board. Discussion followed.

6. Mission of Bourbonnais Elementary School District #53 is to: Provide a safe learning environment with innovation instructional practices

6.01 Summer Project Update - Dennis Crawford, Director of Business Services

Mr. Crawford updated the Board on the completed district-wide and school summer projects. Work still to be completed Track, pave Shepard and LeVasseur, concrete pad at Shabbona and concrete sidewalk at Shepard. Work scheduled to be completed by end of July. Discussion followed.

6.02 Variation to Policy on Therapy Dogs - Daniel R. Hollowell, Superintendent, Ed.D.

Dr. Hollowell asked to Board to review policies 6:120 AP3 and 6:120 AP3, E1 in regards to therapy dogs at school. Members of the Board feel that if it allows the students back in the classroom, therapy dogs should be allowed if prescribed by a medical physician. No vote necessary on administrative procedures. Discussion followed.

7. Mission of Bourbonnais Elementary School District #53 is to: Inspire all students to reach their unique potential as globally conscious learners

7.01 Summer Programs Report - Dr. Jim Duggan, Director of Instruction

Dr. Duggan, Director of Instruction reported on the 2017 summer programs, the number of attendees and the success rate. Summer programs included: Extended School Year (ESY), Academic Camp (Grades K-2), BUGC Student Support Program (Bridge to Accelerated Program); Academic Skills Camp (Grades 3-7); Chromebook Usage; ESL Program (Grades 1-2); Summer Band; Summer Orchestra; Camp Invention; and Robotics Camp (Grades 5-7).
