Kankakee-area residents are being invited to help fight Alzheimer's disease by taking part in a fundraising walk on Sept. 16, according to the Kankakee County Chamber of Commerce.
The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s, being held to support Alzheimer’s research and care, will be held at Bourbonnais’ Perry Farm Park at 459 North Kennedy Drive. According to the event listing, the 3.1-mile walk will start at 10 a.m., with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. and a brief ceremony at 9:30 a.m.
The Alzheimer's Association, the largest voluntary health organization dedicated to the disease, has held fundraising walks since 1989. The Bourbonnais event will also feature educational opportunities in which participants can learn about the disease and what is being done to combat it, including advocacy opportunities, clinical studies and support programs. The Alzheimer’s Association will also present information about its services and efforts.
Those interested in walking can register at www.alz.org. The organization is also seeking volunteers and donations. The Kankakee County walk has a fundraising goal of $82,000.
