Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

The Regular Meeting of the Board of Education of Bourbonnais Elementary School District No. 53, Kankakee County, Illinois was called to order by President Rob Rodewald on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at 7:00 PM at the Administrative Offices, 281 W John Casey Road, Bourbonnais, IL.

1.02 Pledge of Allegiance.

1.03 The following members answered roll call: John Hall, Michael Jurka, Jamie Freedlund Rich McBarnes, Nicole McCarty, Jayne Raef, Rob Rodewald.

Absent: None.

District Administrators Present: Superintendent Daniel Hollowell, Ed.D.; Bernadette Henriott, Director of Student Support Services; Dennis Crawford, Director of Business Services; Mary Bicknell, Principal; Jeffrey Gindy, Principal; Jon Hodge, Principal; Jennifer Longtin, Principal; Shirley Padera, Principal; Abby Saldivar, Associate Principal; Shannon Swilley, Associate Principal; Roger Hale, Technology Director, Michelle Brousseau, K-4 Reading Coordinator.

2. Recognition of Staff, Students and Community

2.01-2 Recognition of Staff and Students - Isaiah Davis - Upper Grade Cross Country - State Competitor 

On behalf of Bourbonnais Elementary School District No. 53, Shannon Swilley, Upper Grade Assistant Principal recognized Isaiah Davis, a 7th grader at BUGC for running at the State Cross Country meet. He broke his personal best for the season, finishing 2 miles in 11:26. Isaiah placed 69th out of 232 of the top runners in our State Isaiah is coached by Mrs. Edmonson and Ms. Welsh.

2.03 Recognition of Community - Josh Fozzard, Grapple Games 

On behalf of Bourbonnais Elementary School District No. 53, Abby Saldivar, Principal, recognized Josh Fozzard and Grapple Games for their continued support of Game Club. They have donated many games to Game Club and they attend game club meetings to teach the students how to play strategic group games.

Co-BEA Presidents Deb Laskey and Nancy Waldschmidt addressed the Board. Introduction of Staff: Christine Terrell, Bonnie Welker, Ellen Miller, Kari Moulton, Renee Brammer, Alison Latham, Colleen Edmonson, Stacey Welsh.

3.02 Communications from/to Visitors -There were no communications to/from Visitors.

3.03 Communications from/to Administration - Shirley Padera, Principal told the Board about a community partnership with Garden of Prayer and Alan Shepard students.

3.04 Communications from/to Board - There were no comments from/to the Board of Education.

3.05 Communications from/to Superintendent - FOIA Requests - There was one FOIA request reported by the Superintendent. Bob Aubrey, PublicFinances.us requesting audit reports and compensation information. (mentioned under item 9.01)

Motion by Member Jaime Freelund, second by Member Nicole McCarty to approve Routine Business as presented. The following voice votes were heard: Ayes: Jamie Freedlund, John Hall, Michael Jurka, Rich McBarnes, Nicole McCarty, Jayne Raef, Rob Rodewald. Nays; None. Absent: None. Final Resolution: Motion Carries.

5. Mission of Bourbonnais Elementary School District #53 is to: Collaborate with staff, students, families, and community

5.01 Review/Discuss Joint Conference 

Each Board Member and Dr. Hollowell discussed various highlights from the workshops they attended at the recent Illinois Association of School Boards Joint Conference / Illinois Association of School Administrators / Illinois Association of School Business Officials.

5.02 Approval of BEA Collective Bargaining Agreement - Superintendent Daniel R. Hollowell, Ed.D. 

Dr. Hollowell presented the changes in the collective bargaining agreement and recommend the Boards approval.

Motion by Member Nicole McCarty, second by Member Michael Jurka to approve the three year BEA collective bargaining agreement as presented. The following voice votes were heard: Ayes: Jamie Freedlund, John Hall, Michael Jurka, Nicole McCarty. Nays; None. Abstain: Rob Rodewald, Jayne Raef, Rich McBarnes. Absent: None. Final Resolution: Motion Carries.

6. Mission of Bourbonnais Elementary School District #53 is to: Provide a safe learning environment with innovation instructional practices

6.01 Lead Testing - Dennis Crawford, Director of Business Services 

Dennis Crawford presented results of the recent lead testing. Mr. Crawford explained the solutions and reporting that the District will put in place. Discussion followed.

6.02 Resolution: Proposed Tax Levy- Dennis Crawford, Director of Business Services 

Mr. Crawford explained the proposed 2017 tax levy to the Board are requested the Board to approve the resolution as presented. There will be a Public Hearing on the 2017 tax levy. scheduled on December 19, 2017 at 7:00 PM. The proposed tax levy will be posted online as required.

Motion by Member Jaime Freelund, second by Member Nicole McCarty to approve the resolution for the proposed 2017 tax levy as presented and schedule the Public Hearing for December 19, 2017 at 7:00 PM. The following voice votes were heard: Ayes: Jamie Freedlund, John Hall, Michael Jurka, Rich McBarnes, Nicole McCarty, Jayne Raef, Rob Rodewald. Nays; None. Absent: None. Final Resolution: Motion Carries.

7. Mission of Bourbonnais Elementary School District #53 is to: Inspire all students to reach their unique potential as globally conscious learners

7.01 Technology Presentations - Roger Hale, Director of Technology and Kari Moulton, Upper Grade Center Teacher 

Roger Hale presented the highlights on different technology related conferences that District staff has recently attended and/or presented at. Kari Moulton also presented on the highlights of the IETC conference. Discussion followed.

7.02 Overview of Office of Instruction Initiatives - Dr. James Duggan, Director of Instruction 

Dr. Duggan gave an overview of the instruction initiatives including Dolly Parton Library, AT Accelerated Program Evaluation, PreK data tracking, ELA standards, Trauma informed schools and Google certified educators. Dr. Duggan presented the upcoming events.
