City of Kankakee issued the following announcement on Aug. 17.
As of today, Interim Police Chief Price Dumas resigned his position with the City of Kankakee. The Chief served the community and his contributions in addressing public safety initiatives are greatly appreciated. We thank Interim Chief Dumas for his service to the City of Kankakee and we wish him well in his future endeavors.
Soon, we will launch a national search for a permanent Chief of Police. I am eager to work with this Council and the community as we conduct this search to fill the vacancy as soon as reasonably possible.
Deputy Chief Willie Hunt will be in charge of the department during the search window. We appreciate the support of the department and the community during this transition.
