Grant Park Community Unit School District 6 Board met August 20. 

Here is the minutes as provided by the board:

A regular meeting of the Grant Park Community Unit School District No. 6 Board of Education, Kankakee County, State of Illinois, was held on August 20, 2018, in the Middle School Library.


The meeting was called to order by President Dickson at 7:00 p.m. and the pledge of allegiance was recited.

                              Christine Horn

                              Jerry Loitz

                              Tim Markland

                               Shari Ohm

Also present:         Dr. John Palan, Superintendent

                              Mrs. Sue Anderson, Recording Secretary

Approval of Consent Agenda:

Motion was made by J. Fick, seconded by J. Loitz, to approve the consent agenda as follows:

          1. Minutes of the regular board meeting of July 16, 2018.

          2. Financial Reports for July, 2018.

          3. Direction to pay the August vendor bills in the amount of $89,572.74.

          4. Approval of the July payroll in the amount of $235,350.46

          5. To approve Melissa Crivokapich for MS Math ($31,294 plus TRS) and JV Volleyball Coach ($1,927 plus TRS), Michael Prepura as Special Needs Instructor ($33,204 plus TRS), Cathy Jansma as Special Needs Paraprofessional ($13.16 per hour), Diane Cademartori as Part-time Commons/Lunchroom Supervisor ($13.16 per hour), Jennifer Olthoff as Part-time Instructional Aide ($13.16 per hour), Paul Juarez as MS Assistant Baseball Coach ($977, no TRS), Marilyn Cordes as HS English Maternity Sub ($126 per day) and Lacey Colston as MS/HS Café Cashier ($10.48 per hour).

          6. To approve the Kankakee Area Special Education Cooperative budget for the 2018-19 school year.

          7. To approve the River Valley Conference Officials’ Pay Structure (2018-19) as presented.

          8. To accept the resignation of Julie Quinn, Special Needs Instructor, effective as of July 30, 2018.

          9. To approve the 2018-19 mentors: Carol Cademartori, Katie Kreis, Debbie O’Day, Kristie Gore and Kelly Toppen ($444 per year plus TRS).

Roll Call: J. Fick – yes; J. Loitz – yes; V. Gawlinski - yes; C. Horn - yes; T. Markland - yes; S. Ohm - yes; and D. Dickson - yes. Motion carried unanimously.

Audience to Person’s Scheduled In Advance: None noted.

 Administrator’s Reports: The administrators’ reports are attached.

Superintendent: Dr. Palan’s report included:

          1. Professional Development: 2018-19 Teacher Institute topics will include school safety and SEL Standards. The entire staff was present for the safety training which was presented by Beacon Training Group free of charge.

          2. Leadership Team target goals for 2018-19 are the result of the Administrator’s Retreat in July.

          3. Tentative enrollment reports show 492 students enrolled in the district.

Presentation of Tentative Annual 2018-2019 Budget:

Dr. Palan reviewed the overall budget, as well as a review of the individual projected fund balances. The tentative budget is balanced. The Transportation Fund is the only fund that shows a deficit but is offset by a surplus in Working Cash. Motion was made by S. Ohm, seconded by C. Horn, to accept the tentative annual 2018-19 budget and place it on display in the district office for a minimum of thirty days. Roll Call: S. Ohm - yes; C. Horn - yes; J. Fick – yes; V. Gawlinski - yes; J. Loitz - yes; T. Markland – yes; and D. Dickson – yes. Motion carried unanimously.

Board Committee Reports:

President: The buildings and grounds look very good; tentative BOE retreat dates for the third or fourth week in September; and the new district brochure will be presented at the village meeting on September 10th.

Building and Grounds: No new report

Technology: Comments that the new webpage is more user friendly.

Kankakee Area Special Education Co-op: No report

Kankakee Area Career Center: No report

IASB-Three Rivers Division: Registration is taking place for the Division Meeting on

October 2nd in Lockport.

Chamber of Commerce: No report

Student Representatives: Not yet in attendance

Board Communications: Nothing

Community Forum and Other: None

Adjourn:

Motion was made by V, Gawlinski, seconded by J. Fick, at 7:21 p.m. to adjourn. Voice vote, all yes. Motion carried unanimously.
