KANKAKEE COUNTY FARM BUREAU: IAA scholarship recipients receive recognition

Scholarship money

KANKAKEE COUNTY FARM BUREAU issued the following announcement on July 25.

Growing up on a farm in northern Illinois, Chase Clausen has been surrounded by the Illinois Farm Bureau his whole life, whether it was through 4-H, FFA or Illinois Pork Producers Association.

Currently, he is involved in Young Leaders in his home county of DeKalb.

He said he was “very humbled” to receive the Legacy of Leadership Scholarship.

“I know that I can do a lot from my local community,” Clausen told the RFD Radio Network. “But then I also want to extend my reach for the entire state.”

Serving on the 2017-2018 Illinois State FFA officer team, Clausen has already had some leadership experience. He said that it has been a transition from FFA to college; however, he hopes to continue his leadership through Illinois Farm Bureau.

“I want to be on the board for Illinois Farm Bureau and enact change for our farmers here in Illinois and be able to represent them at a state and national level,” Clausen said. “I want to use some of my leadership experience to further Illinois agriculture and American agriculture right here in our great state.”

Clausen is studying agricultural and consumer economics with a concentration in agribusiness markets and management at the University of Illinois and will begin his junior year in the fall.

He advises, “Never settle for what you have, always be striving for something that you can do better; improve yourself; improve those around you because if you can … the world will be in a lot better place.”

The IAA Foundation recognized Clausen and other scholarship recipients for their accomplishments last week.

Other scholarship recipients recognized include Top Scholars Nicholas Close, agricultural and consumer economics major at the University of Illinois; Tyler Jenkins, agricultural and consumer economics major at Illinois State University; and Isaac Brockman, agribusiness major at Illinois State University.

The scholarship recipients all told the RFD Radio Network they feel blessed to have received the Top Scholars award.
