Kankakee County Farm Bureau issued the following announcement on Dec. 24.
The Spirit of Giving proved alive and well during Illinois Farm Bureau Annual Meeting events hosted by the IAA Foundation. IFB members helped raise $54,000 to support Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom (IAITC).
Auctions
A silent and live auction, along with ice cream social donations, totaled $30,000. At the silent auction, 158 donated items attracted more than $15,000 in bids.
Items at the live auction went well above value, with some even sold twice, thanks to bidders donating their items back for sale. Along with record donations collected at the door for the ice cream social, nearly $15,000 was raised during the afternoon event.
Trivia Night
A “Let’s Get Animated” theme brought together superheroes, princesses and many more favorites during the 16th annual Trivia Night, which raised $20,000. Winnebago-Boone took first place in the competition, while Woodford County claimed the Team Spirit award.
Country Store, Adopt-a-Cow
Items available for purchase at the Country Store, and a new “Adopt-a-Cow” program brought in an additional $4,000 for ag literacy.
“We continue to be so grateful for the generosity of our county Farm Bureaus, our ag company friends and elected officials who help us make sure Ag in the Classroom lessons can continue in every county in the state of Illinois,” said Susan Moore, IAA Foundation director. “While 2019 was a challenging year for many, we will meet our goal of a fully funded IAITC program!”
