Iroquois West Community Unit School District #10 Board of Education met Feb. 18.

CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL

Vice President Rodger Bennett called the Board of Education of the Iroquois West District Number 10, Iroquois County, Illinois to order in Regular Session on February 18, 2020 in the board room at the Iroquois West High School in Gilman, Illinois. The following officers and members of the Board of Education were present: Rodger Bennett – Vice President, Anthony Miller – Secretary, Norma Classen, Clint Perzee, Amy Schunke and Adam Vice. President Dave Haase was absent.

A quorum of the members of the Board being present, the Vice President called the meeting to order at 7:00pm and declared the Board to be in session for the transaction of business. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited.

Administrators present: Robert Bagby, Joshua Houberg, Duane Ehmen, Christina Duncan, Jim Harkins, Ashley Carlson Others present were: Recording Secretary – Jenny Mims, Deb Talbert, John Elliott, Pat Short, Karla Jean, Karen Jean

MODIFICATIONS TO THE AGENDA

There were no modifications to the agenda.

CONSENT AGENDA

Approval of the open session minutes from the regular meeting on January 21, 2020; Authorization of Expense/Vendor report and authorization of Checks for Bills and authorization of Payroll; Approval of: Deposit File Listing; Imprest Fund Reimbursement in the amount of $3,999.60; Financial Reports; Treasurer’s Report; Activity Fund Reports;

Anthony Miller made a motion to approve consent agenda items; Norma Classen seconded it. Roll call vote: Rodger Bennett – Yea, Norma Classen –Yea, Anthony Miller – Yea, Clint Perzee – Yea, Amy Schunke – Yea, Adam Vice – Yea. The motion carried, 6-0.

Vice President Bennett welcomed all visitors.

COMMUNICATIONS REPORTS AND PRESENTATIONS

Those Who Excel – None

Correspondence – None

Special Education – Mr. Bagby attended a meeting last week. The next meeting will be the evening of March 12, 2020. This is the same evening as the Corn Belt Dinner.

Board Committee Reports – None

Administrative Reports

Houberg – Mr. Houberg wanted to thank The Gilman Woman’s Club for providing a grant for the IW business class to tour ISU. There was also an opportunity for students to take a field trip to KCC. The FFA Auction will be held 2.22.20.

Ehmen – Mr. Ehmen advised the board that the ISA science scores have been received. One freshman scored a 400 out of 400 and another freshman scored a 391 out of 400. Those students will be recognized at a later date. Duncan – Mrs. Duncan shared that Corbyn Molck and Bryce Rogers were chosen to attend the elementary boys choir for the state of Illinois. They were chosen from thousands of students across the state and represented Iroquois West very well. Harkins – GES celebrated the 100th day of school with a parade. Mr. Harkins also reminded everyone that the IWES Carnival will be held 3.13.20 at GES from 6-8pm. Carlson/Curriculum – Mrs. Carlson stated that attendance was up for January, despite much illness. There was also a meeting to discuss benchmark assessments. Onarga Academy – Not present Athletic Director – Not present Technology Coordinator – Not present Superintendent’s Report – Mr. Bagby and Clint Perzee attended another Iroquois County schools meeting. All schools except Central were represented. A big topic of conversation was regarding dual credit classes with KCC. Crescent City has offered two classrooms for use. Details are being worked out. There will be another meeting in April. The Building and Grounds Committee will need to schedule a meeting to discuss summer painting. We should hear if the school maintenance grant has been approved very soon. The superintendent will be attending a meeting in Springfield next Wednesday.

Second Reading and Approval of 2020-2021 School Calendar

Anthony Miller made a motion to approve second reading of 2020-2021 school calendar, as presented; Clint Perzee seconded it. Roll call vote: Rodger Bennett – Yea, Norma Classen – Yea, Anthony Miller – Yea, Clint Perzee – Yea, Amy Schunke – Yea, Adam Vice – Yea. The motion carried, 6-0.

NEW BUSINESS

Let Mowing Bids

Anthony Miller made a motion to direct superintendent to let mowing bids; Adam Vice seconded it. Roll call vote: Rodger Bennett – Yea, Norma Classen – Yea, Anthony Miller – Yea, Clint Perzee – Yea, Amy Schunke – Yea, Adam Vice – Yea. The motion carried, 6-0.

Early Bird Welding at Career Center

Clint Perzee made a motion to allow students to attend Early Bird Welding at Career Center; Anthony Miller seconded it. Roll call vote: Rodger Bennett – Yea, Norma Classen – Yea, Anthony Miller – Yea, Clint Perzee – Yea, Amy Schunke – Yea, Adam Vice – Yea. The motion carried, 6-0.

Executive Session

Norma Classen made a motion to enter executive session at the high school at 7:24 pm for reasons: (#1) The appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1). Adam Vice seconded it. Roll call vote: Rodger Bennett – Yea, Norma Classen – Yea, Anthony Miller – Yea, Clint Perzee – Yea, Amy Schunke – Yea, Adam Vice – Yea. The motion carried, 6-0.

Consensus to exit closed session.

Norma Classen made a motion to approve closed session minutes for February 18, 2020; Adam Vice seconded it. Roll call vote: Rodger Bennett – Yea, Norma Classen – Yea, Anthony Miller – Yea, Clint Perzee – Yea, Amy Schunke – Yea , Adam Vice – Yea. The motion carried, 6-0.

Anthony Miller made a motion to accept irrevocable notice of retirement from Cheryl Dietz, effective at the end of the 2019-2020 school year; Adam Vice seconded it. Roll call vote: Rodger Bennett – Yea, Norma Classen – Yea, Anthony Miller – Yea, Clint Perzee – Yea, Amy Schunke – Yea, Adam Vice – Yea. The motion carried, 6-0.

ADOURN

Roger Bennett made a motion to adjourn; Clint Perzee seconded. Upon Voice Vote, the motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 7:55 pm.
