Kankakee County Sheriff issued the following announcement on June 25.
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of two heavily-committed and long-serving public officials.
Actively serving Kankakee County Board Member, George Washington Jr (D-17), who formerly served as the Chief of Corrections at the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office, passed away last night. Washington spent decades in public service, including 32 years and 11 months as a Kankakee County Board Member, where he served on several different committees.
Former Kankakee County Sheriff William “Bill” Scroggins passed away yesterday evening. After serving two terms as the Kankakee County Sheriff (1978-1986), former Sheriff Scroggins worked as a Bailiff in the Kankakee County Courthouse for 18 years and 11 months.
Our prayers and condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Washington and Mr. Scroggins. We thank you for your years of dedicated service to the citizens of Kankakee County.
