The Economic and Community Development Agency (ECDA) will conduct a needs assessment in each ward, Kankakee city officials said in late-January.
The agency will work together with the alderpersons from each ward to conduct these assessments. ECDA will join with each ward's monthly meeting or schedule a time to hear the residents' needs and feedback in their communities on a monthly rotating schedule.
"As we continue to evolve to better serve our neighborhoods, these meetings serve as first of their kind to be conducted directly with the city's aldermen and alderwomen in every ward," Mayor Chasity Wells-Armstrong said in the release.
The data collected from these meetings will be added to other ECDA outreach efforts. It will help form the 2021-2022 Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) City of Kankakee annual action plan. The city also uses the data to apply for additional federal, state and charitable funding and grants.
"I am confident they will be a great addition to the ECDA's community outreach strategy as we continue to move Kankakee Forward," Wells-Armstrong said.
These monthly meetings will be held virtually until further notice.
Visitors can find the current 2021 monthly schedule posted on Kankakee's website.
