House Bill 158, a healthcare reform bill, looks too costly to state Rep. Jackie Haas (R-Kankakee).
“This bill contains so much with such great cost attached to it,” she said. She added it contains ”numerous new programs with great fiscal impact,”
Republicans said approximately $12 billion would be needed to implement the bill, the Daily Herald reported.
The more than 200-page bill, which was introduced by Rep. Camille Lilly (D-Chicago), has various provisions intended to remove inequities in the Illinois health care system.
Haas acknowledged what the bill covers but also suggested further work on the measure.
“We’ve also heard very good pieces included in this bill,” Haas said. “The behavior healthcare center is a good piece. This industry has struggled years and years. I’ve been at the helm of a community health center for more than 20 years. I deal with this day in and day out. Perhaps we can continue to work on this bill and break it down into reasonable workable pieces.”
Dementia training requirements for the Illinois Department on Aging was added to the bill before it passed the House.
HB 158 passed the House 72-41 on Thursday and arrived at the Senate on Friday.
