State Rep. Adam Niemerg (R-Dietrich) has set aside time on Nov. 3 to meet with his constituents to discuss issues affecting the community.
“Next week is our next Satellite Office Hours in Mt. Carmel, Albion and Carmi,” Niemerg recently posted on Facebook. “If you have any issues or concerns you'd like to discuss, please schedule a time by calling the district office and speaking to Dallas at 217-813-6036.”
Hours will be held 8 to 9 a.m. at the River Church, 315 N. Market St., Mount Carmel; 10:15 to noon at The Hope Center, 23 W. Cherry St., Albion; and 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Carmi Public Library, 103 Slocumb St., Carmi.
Niemerg recently accused the Illinois High School Association of bullying parents over mask mandates.
“Everything regarding mask mandates at schools is political,” Niemerg said in a press release. “It is about control and bullying people into submission. No one pushing for school mask mandates can back up these requirements with actual data. These policies are about control and about the state trying to step in and co-parent our kids.”
Niemerg also recently expressed his appreciation of teachers on World Teachers Day.
“Not just today, but every day,” Niemerg told retired teachers in Wayne County while speaking at festivities marking the occasion. The father of two said, “We need to be thankful for all of the great teachers who dedicate their lives to the education of our children.”
For nearly the last two decades, Oct. 5 has become the date set aside to celebrate teachers.
Niemerg said their job is often a never-ending one.
“Many of our retired teachers actually use their experience to serve as some of our best substitute teachers when our schools need them,” he said. “I say 'thank you' to all of our teachers in Wayne County and around the state.”
