AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Medical Center Elk Grove Village and AMITA Health Resurrection Medical Center Chicago were today recognized with the Healthgrades 2022 America's 50 Best Hospitals Award™.
In achieving the honor, both hospitals are recognized as being among the top 1% of all hospitals in the country for clinical care and patient outcomes for most common conditions and procedures, according to Healthgrades, the leading resource that connects consumers, physicians and health systems.
This is the sixteenth consecutive annual recognition for AMITA Alexian Brothers and the seventh consecutive year for AMITA Resurrection.
"It's a tremendous achievement to have two of our hospitals receive such elite recognition so consistently," said Dr. Rick Scott, executive vice president and chief clinical officer for AMITA Health. "And the fact that it's continued throughout the pandemic speaks to the incredible work and dedication of our physicians, nurses and associates. This is just a reflection of what patients and communities can expect from all our hospitals and sites of care."
To assess overall hospital performance, Healthgrades representatives said they reviewed outcomes across more than 31 of the most common procedures and conditions. Recipients of the America's 50 Best Hospitals Award have consistently delivered better than expected outcomes for their patients.
According to Healthgrades, analysis of Medicare Provider Analysis and Review (MEDPAR) data for years 2018 through 2020 for Medicare patients, if all hospitals performed similarly to those achieving Healthgrades America's 50 Best Hospitals Award, 157,292 lives could potentially have been saved. Healthgrades said patients treated in hospitals achieving the Healthgrades Top 50 Hospitals recognition on average had a 21.7 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive this award, as measured across 17 rated conditions and procedures where mortality is the outcome.
